Neural coding

Fully understanding cortical learning requires understanding the neural coding. In order to observe changes after learning, one must recognize what constitutes a relevant change. Thus I also investigate issues in neural coding and representation. I am involved in two studies that address the questions of a) what the firing of a neuron (or group of neurons) signifies and b) how information is coded across a collection of neurons. Hand in hand with this we construct models to test our ideas of neural coding and learning.
