· 2007 IGERT Fellowship Application ·

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS:
Friday, February 16, 2007

For full consideration, all application materials, including letters of recommendation, should be submitted by this deadline.


Applicant Requirements:

· Current or Prospective Ph.D. Student at UCSD
Applicants must currently be enrolled in, or applying to, a Ph.D. program at UCSD. Applicants may be current or prospective students in any department on campus. Our current IGERT fellows are pursuing their doctoral studies in the following departments: Computer Science and Engineering, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Philosophy.

· Interdisciplinary Research Interest
Our IGERT program encompasses four distinct areas: human vision, human learning, machine vision, machine learning. We require that our fellows pursue Ph.D. research that encompasses at least two of these areas.

· U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Candidates must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to qualify for an IGERT fellowship.

All application materials should be emailed to alk@cs.ucsd.edu, including recommendation letters emailed directly from the recommender. (Please tell recommenders to include in the subject line: "IGERT Recommendation [your name here]." When submitting other materials, please include "IGERT application [your name here]" in the subject line.

Required Application Materials:

1. Statement of Purpose
A 2-page statement of purpose that summarizes the applicant's background and research interests, including their experience or interest in two or more of the IGERT areas. (Current UCSD Ph.D. students (EXCLUDING 1st-years) must submit an additional 2 pages outlining their doctoral research project, clearly explaining how it is relevant to two or more of the IGERT areas.)

2. Curriculum Vitae
A curriculum vitae of up to two pages, preferably in NSF format.

3. Two Letters of Recommendation
For incoming Ph.D. students, the letters should be from individuals who are familiar with the applicant's academic accomplishments and abilities.
For non-first-year UCSD Ph.D. students, one letter should be from the primary research advisor and one from a faculty member familiar with the student's research.
For first-year UCSD Ph.D. students, letters from your undergraduate institution or UCSD faculty are acceptable.

4. GRE Scores
Incoming and first-year UCSD Ph.D. students
must submit an unofficial copy of their GRE scores. Non-first-year UCSD Ph.D. students are not required to do this.

5. Transcripts
Incoming Ph.D. students
must submit a copy of transcripts from all undergraduate institutions attended.
First-year UCSD Ph.D. students must submit a copy of transcripts from all undergraduate institutions attended.
Non-first-year UCSD Ph.D. students will have their academic records retrieved by the IGERT admissions committee for the purpose of review.
